British teenage shoplifters are to be given weekend jobs in shops.
Instead of being taken to court and punished, young criminals in Norwich, East Anglia, are being told to repay the community by working shifts in either restaurants or charity shops.
The scheme is being piloted by police, who think the sooner a young criminal is caught and made to pay for their actions, the less likely they will be to reoffend again.
However, local shopkeepers have expressed discomfort at the scheme - which has already been launched - saying they wouldn't feel comfortable with a known shoplifter working on their premises.
